I am Javier Ortega Figueiral, 44 years old, born and raised in Barcelona, next to the Tibidabo Mountain.
Working as journalist and consultant on aeronautics, I write in various newspapers such as La Vanguardia, El Mundo, Diario de Ibiza, or Diari de Girona. I also write in magazines: Vanity Fair, GQ México/LatAm or Condé Nast Traveler and aviation related magazines: Airline92, Avion Revue, FlyNews and Bart international as well as collaborations on TV and Radio.
I read law in Barcelona and later specialized on aviation law. Since mid-90s up to mid-2000s I was part of Barcelona’s Bufete Ortega law office (specialized on labour law) During my years at that law firm I combined the law practise with journalism until I decided to be a full time journalist in 2007.
In 2009 I was hired by the airline Spanair to be the deputy manager on institutional relations and later in 2012 moved to the helicopter industry, carrying out projects in Catalonia, Andorra, Gibraltar Strait, Balearic Islands and North Africa… and currently 100% journalist again writing and talking on aviation, maritime issues and travel, receiving some awards for my work.
In addition to aircraft, ships and travel and after visiting 70 countries, I have to say that one of my passions is Barcelona. Whenever someone comes to visit us, I want them to fall in love with our city. I’m also interested in architecture, urbanism, cinema and honest cuisine.
