My name is Toni Hermoso Pulido (@toniher). I grew up in Empordà region, inside Dali Triangle but, since I started my University studies, I moved to Barcelona Metropolitan Area and now I live in Barcelona Clot neighbourhood, close to the oddly-looking Torre Agbar.
I work in the Bioinformatics Core Facility of the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), one of the different institutions that make up the Park of Biomedical Research of Barcelona (PRBB). There we provide services and consultation for researchers and companies about Bioinformatics, which is essentially the discipline devoted to solve biologically-related problems by computational means.
On the other hand, for many years I’ve been participating in different Internet and/or free software related communities. As an example, more than 10 years ago I joined Softcatala, a non-profit focused on improving Catalan language situtation in ‘new technologies’. There I’ve been mostly helping on different web development and system administration tasks and specially keeping up the Catalan translation of Mozilla programs such as the popular Firefox browser.
As other colleagues that have popped up in Catalan Voices some weeks before, I’m also member of Amical Wikimedia, and I actually use MediaWiki, the wiki software platform behind Wikipedia, for different professional works. Moreover, I’m also contributing with my technical expertise to some joint projects with my partner.
I’m proud of living in the capital of Catalonia which, despite it may not be the easiest place to live, it is still an inspirational location for getting acquainted with the emerging trends happening in this world.
During the week I’ll be curating Catalan Voices account, I´ll detail for you a bit of my daily life and I’ll expand some of the references I’ve briefly mentioned in the text above. Feel free to comment and I hope you enjoy the trip!
